“The object isn't to make art, it's to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable.”

-Robert Henri

Mixed Metaphor Recording offers flat-rate recording packages designed to allow for the kind of creative experience most independent songwriters and musicians don’t get.

More time in the recording studio at a more relaxed pace

This is especially important if you haven’t been making records for 15 years like I have. Having a flat rate for projects not only gives you time to chase a new idea when it comes, it gives me time to sweat the details and make sure I’m capturing your sound in a way that serves your songs, even if it takes a little bit longer.

Production assistance to help achieve your vision, not just access to microphones and a quiet room

Recording isn’t a passive process. Every microphone choice I make affects the sound of your record and influences subsequent decisions. Because of that, it’s incredibly important to have a recording engineer who understands the sound you’re going for and who can capture your intent.

Included mixing and mastering

Having your recording engineer mix your record is the best way to make sure your record ends up sounding the way you hear it in your head, and having your record professionally mastered is a big part of achieving that outcome. At Mixed Metaphor Recording, engineering, mixng, and mastering is all included in the standard rate.

From ‘Go!’ and the 1st moment of hitting ‘record’ all the way to album release, Nate has been a top-notch technician, a skilled crafts-person, and a joy to work with. Can’t wait to work with Nate [...] again.

I cannot recommend Mixed Metaphor Records highly enough. Nate is incredibly knowledgeable, talented, and down to earth. It’s hard to find recording studios that have great acoustic sound–this is the spot.
